Egg Custard, Ipoh

Ipoh is food haven to a lot of people. Besides from its famous taugeh chicken rice, ipoh hor fun, and the dimsum, I notice another attraction would be the egg custard.

A small coffee shop by name of House of Mirror (Tian CHun), serve one of the best egg custard. One can savour for some satay too...which i mean pork, and intestine satay..

The soft and mild sweet egg custard is smooth when you put in your mouth. The bitter sweet caramel added some taste to the bland egg custard but was so well balance on your tongue. Something i definately will ask you to taste..

Do note that the caramel standard is not well define as I tried twice and I notice it come with different sweetness and sometime a bit bitter due to overcooked. Anyway, it still taste good...

Cielo Dolci @ Paradigm Mall

What is more satisfying that desserts for girls...There is a saying, that a girl will always have second stomach for desserts. This is true, especially for me.

This started with a story, and its written four different cups in Cielo Dolci.
A girl is upset over something,
and a boy took a ladder
where he climb up to heaven,
and produced a scoop of ice-cream for the girl.
Cielo Dolci, means Desserts from Heaven in Italian.

There is actually 2 flavor i choose up there, Durian and Coconut & Gula Melaka mix. Sounds local, ain't it?
Yeah, they actually pride themselves for their home-made ice-cream. And they came with a variety of weird, and flavor that is unheard of anywhere else.
Cielo dolci, A small shop in the lowest ground )same floor as Tesco in the new mall, Paradigm Mall. I did not go for it the first time I actually found it, as I found the ice cream to be too sweet for my liking.
However, it received very high recommendation from a friend, where she insisted that I should give it a try the next time I am there.
Paid a visit today, trying most of their flavor, when I heard another customer asking for Chocolate Cili Padi..
Choc Cili Padi? Seriously? Heard that it made a great combination, but no, they did not make it today, what a disappointment.... But she recommended me Spicy Peanut Butter...LOL...It tasted exactly like peanut butter, but after the ice-cream melted, it left a light hint of spiciness...Something new :D.

The price is considered reasonable, compared to branded Ice-Cream. And its actually hand-made, with flavors you can't find elsewhere. I guess, that's where they started building up fans group.
Found that they have few articles pasted on the wall recommending the ice-creams too...
I would certainly recommend this place...
Do drop by if you happen to visit Paradigm Mall...

T Cafe aka Lord Cafe, Tanah Rata Cameron Highland

Situated above Marrybrown Restaurant in Tanah Rata is Lord Cafe, more popular known as T cafe. That is our very first place to have our meal once we arrive Cameron Highland.

T cafe serve good scone and good place for enjoy a cup of tea.

As we arrive about 3pm in the afternoon, the cafe was quite and there weren't much customer inside. This cafe had been heavily popularise by a lot of foodies and blogger that i do not need to mention much...

Lets straight go to the food then...

Cream scone (RM 2.50)
One word....Best...

Strawberry scone(RM 2.80)
Yummy, but i still think cream scone is the best

Strawberry crepe (RM3.80)
The pancake is just too bland for my taste bud

Apple pie (RM 3.60, or RM 5.00 with vanilla ice cream)
It was Ok. Wasn't too sweet but the pastry is just too dry...

I was craving for chicken pie since they promoting it so badly all over the cafe but sadly it was fully sold out.

Well, the next time I am craving for scone, i know where I am heading too....haha...ok, maybe it was a bit too far....But if I were in Cameron, i believe this is a place I wouldn't want to miss....

Strawberry Moment

I went up to Cameron with my crazy bunch of colleague to relax and have a mabuk session together...*toik***

and talking about Cameron, the first things that come to most people mind would be Strawberry.....and there is weird things about strawberry.....which open for argument...

Is Strawberry sweet or sour? Well, I argue a lot with my colleague about this issue that I feel that I spend more time in arguing than enjoying strawberry...

Anyway, one place not to be missed if you guys visit Cameron Highland would be a cafe name 'Strawberry moment'. The name clearly tell you what to expect from the cafe....Yes, sweet moment with strawberry....

Among the famous dessert would be 'strawberry strudel', strawberry chocolate and strawberry juice. Well, to know more about the cafe and menu, you can log on to their website www.strawberrymoment.com

Here is what we order:
First visit: Strawberry strudel, strawberry juice, fresh combo fruit yogurt, *forgotten desert name*

Second visit we have blueberry strudel and strawberry ice-cream.

Besides dessert they also serve food such as pasta and soup. One of my colleague order the mushroom soup but it turn up to be overx10 salted. No matter how much hot water requested, the soup still taste salty...

The shop is connected to a souvenir shop beside where tourist can purchase strawberry product such as jam, chocolate, strawberry coffee and so on as gift to friend and family.

For those who have sweet tooth like me, well, u guys gotta love it. Sadly I been there twice with full stomach, thus cannot really enjoy the dessert....Dessert should be serve first next time!!!

Nadeje Patisserie Cafe@ Malacca

A trip to Malacca always focus on foods like 'satay celup' and 'chicken rice ball'. I am not excluded as well, until after I was taken to this cafe. With its blue sign( that was all i remembered, not the name, but the colour), Nadeje was actually quite famous among Malacca locals.

Actually, i still can't get the name pronounced correctly yet. As i can never remember addresses, I guess a pic on the name card will do.

Enough for introduction lets get to the main course. Nadeje is actually a cosy cafe specializing in selling only one type of cake, the mille crêpe. Mille crêpe is actually a type of French layer cake, which is thinly layered crust from eggs and creams(a layer of crust and a layer of cream). And it would be a bad idea to have the cake as take-away, as the texture will change if the cake was not kept refrigerated or cold enough.

the original mille crepes

A piece of green-tea mille crepes

Other than finding this idea of cake making refreshing, I do like the soft texture of the crepes a lot as well. Its like eating a mixture of ice-cream cakes with a slight taste of eggs( what else could you expect when it was layered with creams and egg crust?). But the taste of the cake was just nice( not too sweet and not too heavy). A piece of this crepes cost around RM6-7 a piece(as costly as cakes from Secret Recipe, but the texture are considerably much better). They also offer a variety of flavors, such as chocolates, strawberry, mocha and rum & raisins, just to name a few.

Not only the cakes, but other desserts are very tempting as well. They even prepare a glove-like cover for the pot to keep the tea warm. As this place is kinda famous, its not suprising to find the cafe crowded during tea-time around 3-4pm. Its definitely a must try for those visiting Malacca.

P.S: dear admin, hope that I am not doing too bad for my first post *smile*.

Snowflake

Few week back, after a long night of class, we decided to stop by at Snoflake, a taiwanese dessert shop situated just opposite of Asia Cafe. It was same row as Baker Cottage but you have to pay attention on the signboard on 1st floor instead.

One just need to queue up, order and take the UFO and proceed to find a seat....

Yes, UFO....I am not joking!

The high tech beeping UFO is actually a device to show that your order is ready....One can find a seat and start chit chatting with friend and when the UFO beep and vibrate, it mean it is time to collect the dessert that have been ordered earlier.

So we decided to have Grass Jelly Ice with green bean and lotus seed. We also have the grass jelly with yam ball...both is priced at RM 4.90...

Other specialy include the famous Hot Soya Bean with 'Yau Tiao' or in other word is 'Yau Char Kwai'...

Big Reminder: The serving portion is large so if you have small tummy, you can share...

Haagen Dazs Ice Cream

It was a hot season again and cold food is dancing in my mind now....ABC, cendol, ice cream and etc.

Talking about ice cream, I love ice cream expecially Haagan Daaz ice cream. Being born in average income family, Haagan Daaz Ice cream is a superior food for me. There is only rare ocassion where I will step into Haagen Daz shop to twist my taste bud with the sensational cold ice cream that meld on your tongue.

Among the parade of ice cream they offer, i personnally fall in love with Mango Sorbet, The Five passionfruit, rum raisin and chocolate. I still can't find the pineapple coconut flavor which I believe I will like it so much.....

No doubt Haagen Daaz Ice Cream is the best ice cream I ever tasted!!

Kei Tak Sek Dessert House - SS2

Out of sudden, last saturday we are craving for sweeties during the late night thus we stop by at one famous dessert house in SS2 named Kei Tak Sek (remember to eat).

The shop is famous for its chinese dessert such as peanut paste (fah sang wu), red bean (hong tau), green bean (lok tau), black sesame paste (zhi mah wu) and ect.

When we arrive at 11.20pm, we were shock to see a long queue of people waiting to be squeezed into a small shoplots. There is also tables along the corridor of the shops which make it look like a mamak stall.

We settled down after a few minutes waiting just to be told that all dessert have been sold off except peanut paste and green bean. As I don't really like peanut and green bean seem too normal for me, I opt for Sago Loh instead.

Sago loh is actually shaved ice serve with pearl sago and selected blended fruit. I opt for contemporary Mango Sago Loh while Nicholas settle down with this Kiwi Sago Loh. Ken Yap on the other hand choosen a more traditional sweeties which is combination of lotus root with dried chinese date.

The lotus root drink was really refreshing and suitable for those who wanted to reduce thirst. The Sago Loh on the other hand was quite normal and was nothing to shout about.

We also order some side dishes which turn out to be a turn off to me. None of it passed by taste bud. We order baked crab, fried taro (Wu Kok) and lotus paste pancake.

Overall, the ambience was quite nice and noisy like mamak stall. The dessert was ok but the food was totally out of my expectation. However one bad point of this place is the customer turnover was too fast that we can't really have good time enjoying the food as many eye will stare as you immediately after we finish our food!!!

John King@ The Pavilion

This Egg Tart Stall seems like the oriental version of J.Co/Big Apple, instead of Donuts, they sell Egg Tarts.

There are many varieties of tarts, flavors ranging from red bean, chocolate, steamed egg white, and the authentic yellow egg tart. (RM 1.80++)

The Egg White tart seems pale compared to the yellow egg tart, it tasted rather bland, but the outer layer of the tart is very fluffy and aromatic.

This authentic egg tart is the show stopper, with its fluffy outer layer and the texture of the inside which tasted like jelly.

Look at the texture in the inside, really feels like jelly.
Pros: Very fluffy and aromatic outer layer, Different types of flavors

Cons: The jelly-like texture does not appeal to me, and id prefer the ones sold at roadside stalls, where you will get a more tangible texture feeling from it.

Result: 5.5/10
