DucKing Restaurant (Jaya One)

Since Zhe Quan came back to visit us, we decided to find some special and hip place to makan. But in the end, instead of SS2, we ended up in Jaya One Ducking which is a place where families (young to old) goes for their weekly reunion dinner.
Theres basically 3-4 generations of members in the family having their "reunion" dinner on almost every table.
But be warned that reservations need to be made at least in the afternoon/days before to secure a place.I reserved 2 hours earlier and ended up with the last table outdoor.

Pickled cucumber with a pot of chinese tea

The plates, bowls and cutleris are spotless

Duck meat fried with XO sauce
The XO sauce complements the duck meat perfectly

Mixed Vegetables in Claypot
The veges are fresh and crispy despite being cooked with gravy in claypot

Crispy Duck Skin wrapped in thin slices of popiah skin
This dish must be eaten as soon as possible when the skin is still crispy. Doesn't fill up your stomach but is a special experience considering that we are eating beijing styled duck in Petaling Jaya

2-in-1 Platter (BBQ pork + Roasted pork)
The BBQ pork(char siew) tastes very good while the roasted pork is mediocre.

Claypot Curry Fish
The curry is very pungeant and rich, suitable to be mixed with a bowl or rice. Fish is fresh and has lots of eggplant.

Pros: Very nice traditional ambiance and customer service, Food is quite good

Cons: Price of dishes are very premium, The pickled cucumber and tea which are compulsory, costs very much

Result: 8/10

BBQ Chicken (Jaya One)

At first glance, this restaurant looked like a normal but colorful restaurant with simple table arrangements compared to other restaurants in Jaya One...
But dont be fooled...it has the best grilled chicken i hav ever had...the chicken literally melts in your mouth. The herbs used to marinate the chicken are heavenly.
Best of all, this restaurant uses only olive oil to prepare all their food including french fries...talking about eating healthy

Jerk Chicken - This is really one of the best grilled chicken done perfectly, leaving the outer skin a lil bit charred while inside remains tender..

Grilled chicken burger - Imagining of it makes me salivate..it is the best burger one can hav, consisting of only grilled lean meat sandwiched in between two soft buns(dislikes normal burger patties which contents are unknown). The juice from the griled chicken oozes out and drips in every bite. It represents the healthy side of burger.

The fries are also another attracting factor on the platter. These fries are delicious, with large cuts and fried to golden brown..its best to go with the BBQ/Tomato ketchup

Nothing to shout about the "oh, so normal" garden salad..priced at the high side..i dont think it is value for money

compared with my version of the salad done at home..(half the price with prawns in it too)..delicious....

Pros: Tenderlicious chicken, nice fries + good bbq ketchup sauce

Cons: Dull design(Jaya One branch), long waiting time, Price just increased 30% recently. The fat undeneath the grilled chicken needs to be minimized or taken out for health purpose.

Result: 8/10

Fireman Steamboat BBQ ( Jaya One )

my first encounter with this style of steamboat dates back to 3 years ago when i had a buffet sushi package for lunch in the japanese restaurant located at the upmost level of Sungei Wang(with a trademark train used to revolve its sushis)

It was interesting at first coz the upper part will be used to grill meat while the part below is similar to traditional steamboat where u can just throw in literally anything and wait for it to cook....

However, it turned out to be an unpleasant meal coz all the butter used to grill the meat and the charred residue will eventually fall into the broth, creating an unpleasant dark broth...anyway, the restaurant is not related to this post as i will introduce Fireman BBQ Steamboat today..

I found out that they were having promotion at RM 19.90 per person for buffet dinner...seems like a good deal since the price is slashed from the original price of RM 29.90 per person

The ambiance was quite relaxing with clear flow of fresh air and humidifiers, which is important since its an indoor steamboat restaurant and u wouldnt want the customers to complain about the hot and stuffy air inside...

Customer service was meagre coz the waiters are all foreigners, and only one speaks simple english, hence there are communication breakdowns...However, i presume u dont need waiters with good command of english since customers will just need to tick on the leaflets and pass it to them for more servings of food..

The restaurant uses electric stove instead the gas stove, hence, safer and lesser heat generated...

When the grilling and cooking session started, there was a sence of dreadfulness due to my previous experience of the dark and oily broth...
However, after dozens of chicken cutlerts, pork ham, etc are grilled, the broth still remains clear...This may be attributed to the use of a piece of pig fat to oil the grilling part, Hence, substituting the butter while minimizing charrs during the grilling process..

Theres also a performance by the "fireman"

Chicken grilled was quite tender which results in melt in ur mouth sensation

Varieties of other vegetables and meat related products offered

Saw that piece of pig fat on top?? Very useful for grilling + substitues butter

Pros: Nice ambiance/refreshing, the broth stays clear from charred residues, performance by Mr Fireman

Cons: Lack of variety of dishes (felt bored after requesting for same dishes over and over again), poor communication skills by employees

Result: 5/10
