Padthai - Bangkok Fried Keow Teow

Padthai is a traditional food in Bangkok resemble our local fried keow teow.

The rice noodles (keow teow) was much softer than what we can get in Malaysia, more oily in nature and very smooth.

In every street in Bangkok, beside the famous pork noodles, padthai would be available day and night.

Once can choose from original padthai, chicken padthai, seafood padthai to pork padthai. On each table, there is sugar, peanut, thai chilli sauce, chilli flack and fish sauce which one can season the padthai according to our taste.

The difference between padthai with our local fried keow teow is padthai taste much sweeter, oily and smoother.

Anyhow, i somehow prefer padthai over our local keow teow...hehe

Cabbages & Condoms Restaurant

I read a lot of blogs about Bangkok before I fly over there for a 4 days vacation. There is few post that really catch my eye and one of them are about dining in a restaurant with condom theme.

Since the place we stay in just a stone throw away, we decided to have our very last dinner in Bangkok at Cabbages & Condoms Restaurant. The restaurant located at Sukhumvit 12 which is about 5-10 minutes walking distance from Nana BTS station and 3 minutes walk from Times Square.

The condoms theme serve as an awareness program in educating the public on the important of safe sex. Well, Bangkok is famous for sex tourist anyway, so I believe having some awareness programme can help a little bit in reducing the spread of HIV virus.

Our order list are as follows:

เมี่ยงคำ (Mieng Khum)- TBH 120
Thai ancient appetizer - lemon, dried shrimp, peanut, ginger
deep-fried coconut, chilli, shallots, and special sauce ,wrapped in wild betel leaves
The taste was good with a good blend of fresh ingredient, special sauce and herbs. However, the peanut is just too hard for a nice chew

แกงเผ็ดเป็ดย่าง (Gang Phed Ped Yang) - TBH 200
Hot and sweet roasted duck cooked with coconut milk, and green pepper

The virgin green pepper could be easily mistaken as green pea. A bite on the pepper explode the good aroma of pepper but no spicy taste. The sweetness of coconut milk blend well with the curry and the juicy and tender roasted duck enhance this meal

ไก่ห่อใบเตย (Kai Hor Bai Teoy in herb leaf bikini ) - TBH 200
Deep-fried Chicken wrapped in pandan leaf, served with special sauce
The chicken is very tender and juicy. The sauce is also quite special. I personally think it was plum sauce.

ปลากระพงราดพริก (Pla Ka Pong Rad Phrik) - TBH 350
Deep-fried whole sea bass topping with chilli sauce

Too crispy for my liking but i just love the sauce

ต้มยำกุ้ง (Tom Yam Gung) - TBH 250 (big portion in hot pot)
Thai spicy shrimp soup, seasoned with chilli, lime, lemongrass, and galanga

Yum yum....At last a decent tom yam from Bangkok....been searching for days and night

Drinks - Grape juice, honey dew juice and lime juice

Thai Dessert
Sweeten jack fruit, water chestnut, boiled tapioca balls, coconut milk serve with shaved ice and syrup

Total burn in the wallet:

1640 Thai bath....
It was a little bit pricey but the environment was extremely nice with soft music instrument play by beautiful lady smiling all the way, natural curtain from the rain forest tree, condom decoration and free condom for all visitor...Why not!!

Amarin Heavenly Thai

Since coming back from Thailand not long ago, I become a fan of tom yam and thai food. After failing to satisfied my palate in Thai Thai, Sunway Pyramid months ago, I decided to have some try at yet another Thai Restaurant namely Amarin Heavenly Thai.

Liang Bing suggests to go to flying chilies in The Garden, but I opt Amarin Heavenly Thai in Mid Valley Megamall instead. Not knowing that actually Thai Thai, Flying Chilies and Amarin Heavenly Thai were managed by the same company, I was surprise to see the same menu, at these 3 places.

Here is what we ordered.

Pattaya Fried Rice with drumstick – RM 16
The fried rice is tasty with lot of ingredient but the drumstick is not juicy and tender enough. The worst part, the drumstick is not fresh and taste like it was just out of the freezer.

Tom Yam Mee Hoon – RM 15
Sorry to say but I think any restaurant can cook better tom yam than this

Pineapple fried rice – RM 16
One of the best pineapple fried rice I ever tasted. There is chicken floss on top of the rice which makes it taste very special and nice.

Chicken Basil Leave with Rice – RM 16
It looks so normal but it taste quite nice.

Green Curry Chicken – RM 16
I guess the kitchen it either run out of basil and mint or the chef forgotten about it…It taste like normal curry except the color was green!!! Really a turn off…

Thai Ice Tea – RM 9
I tasted the real Thai Ice Tea in Thailand and it taste so heavenly. But Thai ice tea in Amarin was a turnoff for me….

Natural Green Tea – RM 8

Cappucino Ice Blended – RM 10

Total burn in out wallet: RM 161.60 for 6 pax

Kinnaree Thai Restaurant

Here, the Strawberry Bing exploring one of the Thailand restaurant named Kinnaree Thai Restaurant.. It is located in second floor of the Jaya 1 center (above the BBQ Chicken Restaurant)..

The Interior design of this restaurant brings the relaxing environment and homely feel..

PEPPERMINT INFU - refillable (RM 5.50)
Tea that feels like drinking Colgate toothpaste.. But it's depend on people, some people likes it so much..

KINNAREE INFU - refillable (RM 5.50)
It feels like drinking Chinese's Potato Sweat Drink.. I think children like it..

TOM YAM TALAY - 1 person (RM 14)
It is so sour and you can decide whether you want it normal, spicy or more spicy.. It contains a muscle, a prawn, a slice of fish and 2 cutter fishs..

GREEN CURRY KAI (RM 24)
The paste is green in colour (might contain of pandan leaf and coconut milk) and the taste is better than the Mmarinate amak stall curry.. The chicken slices are soft and marinated that makes you want to keep on eat the second pieces..

YAM PHAK BUNG KR (RM 14)It is Kai Lan vegetable that fried with flour and comes with some walnuts, meat paste and prawns. Feels like eating Tempura..

The only thing that I felt is not reasonable is the rice costs RM 3 per bowl, EXPENSIVE..

I do love the eating environment there and it is suitable for couples to been there..

Jimmy & Nong Thai Restaurant (Taman Cahaya, Ampang)

This is not your typical Thai restaurant, the aroma of barbecued crabs and cuttlefish will first hit your sence of smell even before you take your sit.
The continuous BBQ master fills the BBQ grill with seafood like theres no tomorrow..

Its best to be there at 6pm because it will be filled to the brink at 7pm. The varieties of dishes are not tremendous, but the taste of each dish is enough to excite your senses...

Fried mini "you tiao" with kaya dipping
This plate of "you tiao" tasted quite normal despite its unique presentation

Tom Yam Claypot
This soup is super rich and tasty. Its boiled till frappes appears on top of the soup. Filled with many different kind of seafood in it.

Black Pepper Crab
This dish is best eaten when its hot...the succulent mest is so fresh and tasty, the whole plate of crab will be emptied before the next dish arrive

Thai Style Fried Rice
This plate of fried rice have quite a number of big prawns hiding under the pile of rice..however, kinda pricey mayb due to the prawns

Belachan Kangkung
This dish is mediocre compared to belachan kangkung that i had in most of the chinese restaurants. Belachan tasted too mild, no ummph

Curry Lala
This dish tasted kinda weird at first, but after tasting a few Lala, u might get hooked (but more of an acquired taste)

Grilled Mantaray

This fish is tender on the inside with spices wrapped in aluminuim foil before grilling. The taste is ok, but must be eaten when its really hot.

Pros: Fresh seafood, some of the dishes are rare, eg. Kerabu(cold glass Chicken Feet)

Cons: NO chicken/pork (halal) which equals to lesser variety of dishes.
Price is quite steep especially fried rice

Result: 7.5/10 (p.s everything must be eaten when its still piping hot as it will become less tasty when the heat settle down)
