De Pastry Chef @Manjalara

It has been awhile since I last posted about food, and it's even longer since I the last I visited DE Pastry Chef cafe...a place that seems to be favored among Kepong residents. This time  of revisiting is actually to fill my empty stomach since I woke up really late , and rush for other matters after that. Since, it's 3rd in the afternoon, I decided to go for their tea time set, a piece of chicken pie that comes with a cup of coffee for RM 7.50.
The chicken pie was soft at the side, with very oily and yet not crunchy skin. After cutting in, the chicken look munched instead of cube cut.  And it's terribly over-cooked,  which was quite a disappointment.

Then I decided to try their spicy and sour bread bowl, which look good in the menu. However, it turned out to be too starchy for my liking, a dish I only take a few spoonful with the bread.

Lastly,  I decided to order a cake, since I believe that for a Cafe that make its name with its cake wouldn't fail in this area. Indeed the cake are pretty edible. I ordered a chocolate coffee, with lots of cream,  but couldn't smell the supposedly coffee's aroma, and neither has the strong chocolate fragrance.
Well, the above comment on their food is strictly on my own opinion, and I guess it would never be an option of my future visit. However, for the price I've paid, I believe I have the right to complain >_<

Strawberry Field @ PJ uptown

This is another long overdue posting...

During Christmas eve last year, I decided to have a simple dinner together with Nick, George, Yap, CL and YT. As we are all auditing at different area I decided to gather at the middle point which would be around PJ town. Bored about Jaya 1 and SS2, I decided to try out some new food in PJ uptown...

I search online and saw some recommendation for a cafe name Strawberry Field, located in PJ uptown just a step walk from Menara MPPJ...

YT and CL order the Christmas set which come with a spagetti, brownies, soup and drinks. As both of them arrive early, they have almost finish their meal when I am there together with George. Before I even have my seat, YT shake his hand indicating the food wasn't up to his expectation.

The spagetti is not good at all. No taste of cheese at all and it seem like a fried noodle in 'tai chow' stall...The brownies is actually chocolate moist cake topped with ice- cream and chocolate

I settle down and decided to have meal here while deciding where to go for second round later. I order grilled fish with lemon sauce while fook weng order his seafood platter. Again the food was so so only. The lemon sauce seem to be done in Chinese style. The seafood platter is just like sotong goreng and udang goreng at nasi kandar stall...

Ken Yap arrive later and order his steak. He say is quite tender but the sauce do not have the 'kick' to make the steak taste good....

Nick arrive the last and after we warn him about the quality of western food, he decided to go for asian food. He order tom yam fried noodles and it was proven that asian food taste much much better here.....The tom yam paste is really a kick off....Spicy, Sour, Salty....just nice for the fried noodles.

Quality and taste wise it was not good and not up to my expectation but for the ambience and price I would say it was reasonable. Just have a look at my honey lemon....They chunck the whole lemon in it and not nicely sliced it.....Sweat!!!

Monte's Restaurant & Wine Bar @ Klang

Few days back, my department have a farewell party for one of the longest surviving colleague that manage to sail through the high and low of my department. Well, to survive in our department is not an easy task but on the same time quite fun to have crazy colleague in difficult time. Conclusion, all of us manage to sail through the worst time of all.

To send off this cute little gal who is flying off to US very soon, we decided to go to Monte’s after some push by one of my colleague.

Monte’s originated from Bangsar and has one branch in Klang. Not much people know about this branch. My colleague told me that they serve same menu but with different price…Hope she didn’t conned me on that information…I try to Google© the restaurant name but 99% of it was related to Bangsar Shopping Complex. I bet the Klang branch wasn’t that famous after all.

Well, we order quite a lot of food. Let have the list rolled:

Mushroom Soup
It was very yummy and creamy. Just perfect with the toasted French loaf.

2 sets of Pumpkin Soup (come with my lunch set)

The texture of the soup was quite well done but I regretted that the chef have over salted the soup

Simply Grilled Fish
The name simply grilled is quite funny as most of us is trying to make fun of the name and guessing how badly would the grilled fish came out. Thank god it come out ‘simple and nice’. The chips was big, and the dory fish was fresh and cook to perfection. I love the salad too...

4 sets of garlic butter grilled fish
I have to say that the garlic butter grilled fish came out the same as my simply grilled fish except it was topped with garlic butter sauce. I could smell the sauce from a far but my colleague commented that the taste is as par as Manhattans Fish Market.

Prawn and Fish Combo
Another staff, a prawn lover chooses the Prawn and Fish Combo. The fish was tender and juicy but the prawn was just OK. Nothing to shout about.

Grilled lamb
I believe it was so so since my food taster didn't say anything after her meal. But she was quite satisfied after all

Grilled chicken..
Erm...I believe it was tasty...Well, why not you try it out?

2 set of Mixed Grill
The portion of mixed grill was quite small compare to other restaurant but it was just good for one person. Serve with grill lamb, chicken, sausages, egg and side dish of chip and boiled vegetable

Mixed Nachos
Look delicious but I didn't try it as I was quite full...

Total burn for the session is RM255.30. Considering meal for 9 persons, I would say it was worth every single cent we spent. The pricing is reasonable and serving portion is also quite generous. Ambiance was OK but I believe the one in Bangsar Shopping Complex could offer a better atmosphere.

3 hooligans @ Out of Africa

One fine Saturday evening, 3 hooligans ventured to Petaling Jaya to search for wild & exotic food...

Lo and behold....

Here is where we satisfied our EXOTIC tastebuds...

Vegetarians will not like to hear this...

We managed to hunt down a few tasty meat!!
*Tada!!

Baked Cheese Ostrich

This dish was a dissapointment as the cheese did not go well with the ostrich meat. Too much batter was used to fry the fillet. The meat tasted quite bland. Maybe the ostrich did too much exercise...Or maybe we Malaysians are more familiar with KFC...*slurpp

On the plus side, the mash potatoes tasted GOOD! =P

Next...

Grilled Seafood Platter

Ahh..looks like something from the Manhattan's Fish Market right?

You know what?? They really do taste better @ Manhattan's Fish Market ...

Probably due to the reason that they do not have much seafood in Africa.

It was not bad. The seafood were very fresh. As you can see, 3 mussels, 3 prawns, we could evenly divide the portion for 3 persons.

It also came with side dishes (as seen in the picture below)

CHIPS!!! (My favourite!!)

And of course the boiled carrots rich in beta-carotene & the green vege cooked African-style which tasted like...vege..of course..*Grins

Now, the BEST meat of the night...

Zuri Duck *Yummy

Voted as Best tasting meat of the night by all 3 of us!! But the selection of RICE as the side dish was really OUT la!!! I personally insisted on CHIPS!! But...but...I had no one to support my vote :( 2:1 for rice...Gosh..

Anyway, meat-lovers should really try this dish! Not only was the meat tender and juicy, but the grapes gave it a very UNIQUE taste!!! We all loved this!!!

Last but not least...

We decided to add one more order as our appetite for exotic meat was not quite satisfied.

And here we got our SURPRISE!!!

Venison Pie

We waited quite a while for this dish as it was a last minute decision. But the wait was well worth it!!

Look at it!! It not only looked good and smelled good!! Take note of the detailed sides of the crust and how the effort was taken to shape the crust and not just leave it plain...

Let's take a peep inside...

Would you just look at that??!!

The smell was heavenly!!!

The gravy in there tasted so wonderful with the CHIPS!!!

The venison meat in there was tender, juicy, and cooked just nice!!!

The crust, as you can see, is not too thick that it totally kills your appetite, but baked to perfection...

______________________________________________

Ooohhh hmmm....We 3 hooligans were satisfied tonight....

Definitely worth a try!!!

Especially when this quaint little place has been in existence for many years already.

There must be more good food we did not get a chance to taste on the menu.

There was an alchoholic drink by the name of "White Elephant" (something like that) which none of us dared to try!! Just in case it got out of hand...*Wink

Boutique Cafe (Opposite Asia Cafe-Subang Jaya)

At first glance, it looks like a normal boutique selling ladies dresses and providing Fish Spa service.
However, a closer look reveals that theres more to the boutique. Sets of tables and chairs in the shop resembled a restaurant. It is unique+artistic, so we decided to try the food they serve..

However, when we step into this boutique + restaurant + fish spa, theres a confusion caused as it is not a norm to have a meal, surrounded by dresses, or even when ur feet is being nibbled by little fishes..

The reality sink in when we sat in the restaurant.
First, there are two fish spa area where you can hav ur meal while having the spa at the same time...However, one of it is dry, whereas the other is contaminated.
Second, there are lots of mosquitoes started to attack with vengeance when they saw us
Third, the ambiance is not so sophisticated afterall, when closer look is taken, it feeels more like an abandoned boutique with few tops being displayed...

Spaghetti Carbonara with a garlic bread
It was rather dry and carbonara sauce is actually normal mushroom soup from the can, without cheese. We had to request for it to be cooked for a second round with more gravy so that it will resemble a carbonara, instead of olio.

Iced Coffee
When its served, i thought it was a cola, but when tasted, it is indeed coffee with the absence of milk in it. The taste was rather unique, but not as satisfying as our usual coffee shop "kopi ping". It is also rather expensive.

Sandwich set
Nothing special, normal bread with tuna fillings and coleslaw + fries
The person who ate it got sick the next day due to food poisoning(mayb the tuna is not fresh)

Fish Fillet
All the others choose Fish Fillet set which seems delicious from the menu. It tastes and looks nice, but the side dishes that comes with it is mediocre.

Pros: Have a nice store concept, but didnt upkeep.

Cons: Sandwich is not fresh, price is on the high side

Result: 4.5/10 ( o.5 is deducted from the bad sandwich and abandoned fish spa)

BBQ Chicken (Jaya One)

At first glance, this restaurant looked like a normal but colorful restaurant with simple table arrangements compared to other restaurants in Jaya One...
But dont be fooled...it has the best grilled chicken i hav ever had...the chicken literally melts in your mouth. The herbs used to marinate the chicken are heavenly.
Best of all, this restaurant uses only olive oil to prepare all their food including french fries...talking about eating healthy

Jerk Chicken - This is really one of the best grilled chicken done perfectly, leaving the outer skin a lil bit charred while inside remains tender..

Grilled chicken burger - Imagining of it makes me salivate..it is the best burger one can hav, consisting of only grilled lean meat sandwiched in between two soft buns(dislikes normal burger patties which contents are unknown). The juice from the griled chicken oozes out and drips in every bite. It represents the healthy side of burger.

The fries are also another attracting factor on the platter. These fries are delicious, with large cuts and fried to golden brown..its best to go with the BBQ/Tomato ketchup

Nothing to shout about the "oh, so normal" garden salad..priced at the high side..i dont think it is value for money

compared with my version of the salad done at home..(half the price with prawns in it too)..delicious....

Pros: Tenderlicious chicken, nice fries + good bbq ketchup sauce

Cons: Dull design(Jaya One branch), long waiting time, Price just increased 30% recently. The fat undeneath the grilled chicken needs to be minimized or taken out for health purpose.

Result: 8/10

Opt for Fish then...

Weeks ago, we are undecided of what to eat in One U as there is thousand of food outlet available. So we walk and walk until we are so hungry and we just simply enter into a restaurant.

Thumb up, thumb up...A satisfaction meal, i could say...

Sorry for the blurr photo as I forgot to bring my camera along...

Waffle World

Like Waffle?

Then Waffle World is the answer...

Besides Waffle, they also serve ice cream, pancake, light food and some western food...
