Recently I went to Tanjung Sepat with the gals to celebrate Wan Ying birthday. Basically Tanjung Sepat is a small fisherman village. Nothing special there except there is some plantation to visit and the forever 'not so romantic' lover bridge...
I am not sure whether it was human natural thought or is a norm that people will associate seafood to fisherman village or anyplace where there is beach. Just to inform you that Tanjung Sepat is not famous for its seafood actually. No doubt there is hundreds of seafood restaurant but not all is sedap sedap belaka lo...
Since we went there without any planning thus we eat at Ocen Restaurant. One can never miss this restaurant as it was located directly next to the Lover Bridge overseeing the muddy beach and of course the view of sunset.
As it was a hot day and some are getting sick with sorethroat we ops for non spicy non fried food.
We order one fried rice to go along with our kongpo mantis prawn, steam white promfet and sweet and sour crab. Oh not to forget some green...We order sweet potato leaf
Fried rice was good. The 'wok hei' is enough to bring up the aroma though there is not much of ingredient it it.
Sweet potato leave is nothing to shout about. We order this because we need some green stuff to go along with our heavy food.
The kongpo mantis prawn is a total disappointment. Being Klangite, I have try many place serving mantis prawn and I had never try such a bad kongpo mantis prawn
The steam promfet is by far the best food we have. The fish were fresh and it was lightly salted with soy sauce and ginger. However, I wish there is more sauce to go with the fish as it get kinda dry after a while.
Well, crab is a must according to the gals. However for me, this crab is just 'off' mode for me. Frankly I know i can somehow cook better than me. Sorry to say my mom cook better sweet and sour crab.
The crab is small size and the sauce is just too sour for my liking. I think they just pour in ketchup and fried with the crab. Nothing to shout about.
Total damage is RM 127 inclusive of 4 coconut drink and few other drink to crunch our thirst....It was a hot day anyway.....

Restoran New Hong Seng Bay Seafood@Tanjung Sepat
The crew members of Harkausiewmai are eager to visit Tanjung Sepat to taste the fresh seafood.
Hence, here we are on the eve of Merdeka Day, relaxing by the side of rushing sea breeze while enjoying the delicious and fresh dishes served by the restaurant located just by the seaside.
We cant resist but to camwhore "kau kau" at yet to be polluted seaside while waiting for the dishes to be served...

A pot of tea which is a norm for chinese dishes, can hav the usual selection of "kuk po". "hiong pin", etc.... why am i writing about the oh, so normal tea? Well, u will understand when ur having it while being blown by the relaxing seabreeze...
Tau Fu Kang
The opening, which is the "tau fu kang" tofu cooked like sharks fin in claypot. This dish is pretty good, and has all the natural taste of bounties from the sea...theres actually crab meat in it too...yummy
Joo as a gentleman, serving us the tau fu kang, and by the look of his face, u can actually see that he is soooo eager to be the first person to taste it...
Well, to some, a bowl of "tau fu kang" would not be complete without some dark vinegar in it. However, it would only be given upon request. This vinegar is mild, and did not provide the necessary "kick" for us who prefer strong taste of vinegar....
Claypot Ho Chien (oyster and egg cooked on claypot)
This dish is pretty good, with so many oysters cooked with the eggs. We can taste the freshness of the oysters, and its pretty darn good for oyster lovers....
Deep Fried Cuttlefish
This dish did not let us down as compared to what we had in KL/Jalan Alor...the cuttlefish still maintains the springy sensation, an indication of freshness
Look at how crunchy and light the batter covering the cuttlefish

Claypot Curry Fish
This dish is damn good, with the precise concoction of spices, it is cooked to perfection..Its not too spicy, hence, the taste of the fish can be savoured. The vegetables are not mushy and ingredients are aplenty(as u can see from the pic)
The total cost for the meal for 5, costs around RM70+ which is quite reasonable
Pros: Fresh seafood, Good dishes, Nice view and breeze
Cons: Need to travel quite far, unless u intend to visit tanjung sepat, it makes little sense that u will travel all the way there from KL just to eat it then, back to KL...
Results: 8.5/10 (it is shy from 9 coz the distance is quite far from KL)

A trip to Tanjung Sepat - Part 2 (Places to visit)
A trip to Tanjung Sepat will never be complete without a visit to the few famous tourist hotspots.
Although the journey takes around 2hours to reach there, but it worth every minute to me as this trip has strengthened my family bonds. Hence, this is a prove that we do not need to spend an enormous amount of money to obtain happiness, and to support local tourism
Please allow me to post some artistic shots taken from the trip...(actually i dont wanna waste the 5 image slots allowed by blogger, so just added 2 more to fill in the space..haha)

Here are the few places that we've visited
Hai Yew Hin
This place produces "pao's" stuffed with a varieties of different ingredients such as "mui choi","pork with half of a fully boiled egg","peanut paste","black sesame paste","mixed vegetable" , and steamed butter bun. These fillings are quite unique and not widely available in Kuala Lumpur.
The process has been machinised since orders have been flowing in non stop after a visit by the "God of Eatery" from Hong Kong (the fat guy that appeared in a lot of food related tv programmes)
The black sesame paste and mixed vegetable at the back
The "mui choi" paste
House wives part time job, this is a small factory but u wont believe that the number of paos they sold per week, especially weekends when a lot of aunty local trips frequent the shop.
See the amount of paos that we bought from there...filled the boot area to the max...1 bag = 6 paos..

Lingzhi Farm
There are many varieties of fungus/mushroom grown in this farm, and you can get different types of fresh or processed mushroom/lingzhi related foodstuff in its shop.
The glaze from these Lingzhis seemed like it has been polished..haha
Oyster Mushroom
Monkey Head Mushroom
Yellow oyster mushroom (looks more like flowers to me)
Dragon Fruit Farm
These fruits are certainly rare in Kuala Lumpur and i have never tasted it before. The boss said its not ripe and will only be harvested 2 weeks after.
So many fresh Dragon Fruits, and you can buy dragon fruit wine from them too...it tastes more like " Whisky + Red wine +a lil bit of Dragon fruit taste" in it...

There are actually lots of pictures that i've missed such as the durian that we ate(very nice and orangee in color), the actual Dragon fruit farm....i dunno why i missed them...but anyway, hope that you guys enjoyed it...
Pros: Fresh fruits and unique paos which tasted not bad
Cons: Each farm are quite a distant away from each other

A trip to Tanjung Sepat - Part 1 (Restoran Ocen)
This restaurant is located just beside the Lover's Bridge of Tanjung Sepat. Since its also used as a jetty for fisherman to unload their catch of the day, you can be ensured of the freshest catch available to be served to you..
I firstly did not hav much expectation because the restaurant looks just like a typical kampung restaurant which i presume will only produce dishes that are so-so...
However, im totally wrong...the dishes that thay served tasted better than many of the seafood restaurants i've frequented in Kuala Lumpur/Petaling Jaya
Restaurant Ocen is the wooden shack located just beside the entrance of Lover's Bridge (see the shack on the right side of the bridge at the far end? This picture is taken from the end of the brige towards the land)

At the end of the jetty is where fisherman fills in their catch into large plastic containers and will be collected by sellers via motorcycle.
The Lover's Bridge, viewed from Restoran Ocen
Fried Squid
The most recent encounter with this dish is from Lala Chong. The squid from Lala Chong is mushy and lost it's springy texture of the squid. But this time, it did not let me down. The squid is crispy outside, fresh and springy inside.
Claypot Curry Fish
This is another dish that surpassed my expectation. The curry at fist, looks diluted. But a taste of it says the opposite. It is full of flavor ranging from spicy, to sweet, to a lil sour(from lemon zest).Hence, its really good if served with white rice.
Claypot Tofu (aka Taufu Kang)
This is another signature dish of Restoran Ocen. The consistency of its gravy/soup remains very well and do not turn into water. Add some vinegar and there you go, a nice bowl of Taufu Kang.
Fried Kangkung with Belachan
The kangkung tasted very fresh and the texture is crunchy, much more crunchy than the everage kang kung. The belachan that is fried with this kangkung provided it with and extra kick when its eaten hot...

Pros: Nice tasting and fresh seafood, price quite reasonable (only 61 ringgit for everything)
Cons: Located beside of the jetty and muddy planes, hence, the seabreeze usually brings some unpleasant smell from the semi dry swamp.
Result: 8.5/10 ( If u dine in the night, it could score 9 coz the sea level will rise and no more stenched smell, while enjoying the sound of waves when ur having ur dinner)
