Mangoes from AndhraPradesh(India)

Mangoes are common in Malaysia due to our tropical climate. Mangoes from our neigbouring countries such as Thailand and Indonesia are widely available in wet markets country wide. The more premium mangoes from Australia and India need to be sourced from upscale supermarkets(eg.Cold Storage).

These mangoes here are bought from Restaurant Sri Paandi in Kajang. These mangoes from India can usually be found in Indian restaurants provided that the imported stocks are available. These mangoes are very very sweet and need to be chilled in order to enjoy the aroma, taste and texture of the fruit.

The box with 5Kg of mangoes costs RM 50 ringgit, pretty cheap for such delicacies

Look at its size...

Nice platter to be chilled in the fridge before consumption

Another way to enjoy the juicy delicacy...yummmm...

Pros: Very sweet(if eaten warm will not be nice..imagine eating warm ice cream)
Nice texture and aroma

Cons: Price is slightly on the high side

Result: 9/10 (must be served chilled)

Claypot Chicken Rice at Restaurant Sin Heap Seng

Yesterday Yen Thoong bring us to eat one of the most famous claypot chicken rice along Jalan Imbi. The restaurant name is Restaurant Sin Heap Seng.

From the first look, it seem like and old shop with nothing interesting to blog about. The easies way to indentify the restaurant name is in deed not the shop name by itself but rather the big signboard of a driving class center.

The best part of the claypot chicken rice is it was cook over the charcoal fire instead of normal stove fire. This enable the claypot to absorb heat more evenly and added fragrance to the rice. This was truly the traditional way of cooking claypot chicken rice...

We order 2 big claypots of original claypot chicken rice (for those who love lap mei, you can ask for additional lap ngap, waxed duck instead)...

The rice came a few minutes later with nice aroma of sesame oil and a bit of 'hangus' fragrance. It was simply nice just to smell the food when it was served..

The rice comes with salted fish, chicken liver, lap chong and tender and juicy chicken. Frankly, I never have such a juicy and tender chicken for claypot chicken rice.

At the end, 4 of us unable to finish the 2 claypot of rice and we have to ask for a take over...

Total damage to our wallet: RM 32….

Boutique Cafe (Opposite Asia Cafe-Subang Jaya)

At first glance, it looks like a normal boutique selling ladies dresses and providing Fish Spa service.
However, a closer look reveals that theres more to the boutique. Sets of tables and chairs in the shop resembled a restaurant. It is unique+artistic, so we decided to try the food they serve..

However, when we step into this boutique + restaurant + fish spa, theres a confusion caused as it is not a norm to have a meal, surrounded by dresses, or even when ur feet is being nibbled by little fishes..

The reality sink in when we sat in the restaurant.
First, there are two fish spa area where you can hav ur meal while having the spa at the same time...However, one of it is dry, whereas the other is contaminated.
Second, there are lots of mosquitoes started to attack with vengeance when they saw us
Third, the ambiance is not so sophisticated afterall, when closer look is taken, it feeels more like an abandoned boutique with few tops being displayed...

Spaghetti Carbonara with a garlic bread
It was rather dry and carbonara sauce is actually normal mushroom soup from the can, without cheese. We had to request for it to be cooked for a second round with more gravy so that it will resemble a carbonara, instead of olio.

Iced Coffee
When its served, i thought it was a cola, but when tasted, it is indeed coffee with the absence of milk in it. The taste was rather unique, but not as satisfying as our usual coffee shop "kopi ping". It is also rather expensive.

Sandwich set
Nothing special, normal bread with tuna fillings and coleslaw + fries
The person who ate it got sick the next day due to food poisoning(mayb the tuna is not fresh)

Fish Fillet
All the others choose Fish Fillet set which seems delicious from the menu. It tastes and looks nice, but the side dishes that comes with it is mediocre.

Pros: Have a nice store concept, but didnt upkeep.

Cons: Sandwich is not fresh, price is on the high side

Result: 4.5/10 ( o.5 is deducted from the bad sandwich and abandoned fish spa)

BBQ Chicken (Jaya One)

At first glance, this restaurant looked like a normal but colorful restaurant with simple table arrangements compared to other restaurants in Jaya One...
But dont be fooled...it has the best grilled chicken i hav ever had...the chicken literally melts in your mouth. The herbs used to marinate the chicken are heavenly.
Best of all, this restaurant uses only olive oil to prepare all their food including french fries...talking about eating healthy

Jerk Chicken - This is really one of the best grilled chicken done perfectly, leaving the outer skin a lil bit charred while inside remains tender..

Grilled chicken burger - Imagining of it makes me salivate..it is the best burger one can hav, consisting of only grilled lean meat sandwiched in between two soft buns(dislikes normal burger patties which contents are unknown). The juice from the griled chicken oozes out and drips in every bite. It represents the healthy side of burger.

The fries are also another attracting factor on the platter. These fries are delicious, with large cuts and fried to golden brown..its best to go with the BBQ/Tomato ketchup

Nothing to shout about the "oh, so normal" garden salad..priced at the high side..i dont think it is value for money

compared with my version of the salad done at home..(half the price with prawns in it too)..delicious....

Pros: Tenderlicious chicken, nice fries + good bbq ketchup sauce

Cons: Dull design(Jaya One branch), long waiting time, Price just increased 30% recently. The fat undeneath the grilled chicken needs to be minimized or taken out for health purpose.

Result: 8/10

Noble House buffet

This is another outdated, old posting...

Noble House in Imbi offer a buffet lunch exclusive on every sunday at the price of RM 39++ for buffet plus a bowl of braised shark fin.... For person who wanted to feel more 'duluxe', they can try the RM 50++ buffet which come with double boiled shark fin in chicken wings...

The best part of the restaurant is not just the food but the ambience and the landscape and design of the whole restaurant.

The buffet lineup is seperated to few parts - dim sum, soup, claypot food, main course, and dessert.

Here go pictures and more pictures to summarize this post...

Fong Lye Taiwan Restaurant (The Gardens)

I made it a point to try the food in this restaurant coz it seems so darn good, whereby long queues of customers are willing to wait outside of the restaurant before they can obtain a table...(they are also served with green tea while waiting)

The immediate feel was that im actually in Taiwan coz their waiter and waitresses doesnt look like locals...the guys look like taiwanese from the mountains (traits like superstar taiwanese singer A-Mei)

The menu includes rice sets, mini steamboat, and other typical taiwanese dishes..(the fried sweet potato ball are quite popular).
The prices are not exhorbitant considering that it is located in one of the most exclusive malls in Malaysia.

However, there seem to be limited space and my table is placed too near to another customer's table(around feet), creating an uncomfortable and no privacy to chat while waiting for food to arrive..

This is not the typical ice kacang(ABC)- includes sweet potato, yam, green + red bean, and ice cream
But does not justify its price(very expensive for just a normal dessert)

This set comes with rice set and claypot chicken cooked with a type of very fragrant leaves...
The rice, topped with pork gives a very nice fragrant and taste to the bowl of rice(cant help but to finish it)...

This set comes with fresh fish fillet cooked in tomato+eggs (the eggs tasted very tangy and fresh)

Pros: Nice ambiance, good taste, good service

Cons: Tables too close, waiting time for food too long

Result: 7/10

Restoran Sifu ( Mahkota Cheras)

This restaurant was previously established selling solely "lap mei" products..eg. chicken/ duck, egg, pork instestines etc, soaked in a dark soy broth for an aged effect and to make it tastier...the demand was poor...

Fearing that the business might not last, the boss reworked the menu and came out with some really good dishes to whet our insatiable appetite...and the results was an instant hit, filled with customers to the brink during dinner

located just opposite the Mahkota Cheras mini lakegarden + children's playground, the view is perfect during the evening when childrens and adults filled the playground and jogging path...

Anyway, lets come back to the food...
The presentation of the dishes there are quite unique..

Tofu + Egg on hot plate

Fish fillet + crispy chicken skin + kung pow chicken dices

Honey marmite pork ribs

Sambal Kangkung (very crunchy)

Fish in soysauce cooked in a huge claypot - this has the best presentation whereby the waiter takes the claypot still covered, then poured fresh onions etc. and then mixed it before serving

To wrap it up, the Unique presentation caught my attention, the taste of the dishes are "ngam ngam ho"(all dishes complements each other),

Bonus:Nice view of the park

Result: 7.5/10 (0.5 is for the view..haha)

Fireman Steamboat BBQ ( Jaya One )

my first encounter with this style of steamboat dates back to 3 years ago when i had a buffet sushi package for lunch in the japanese restaurant located at the upmost level of Sungei Wang(with a trademark train used to revolve its sushis)

It was interesting at first coz the upper part will be used to grill meat while the part below is similar to traditional steamboat where u can just throw in literally anything and wait for it to cook....

However, it turned out to be an unpleasant meal coz all the butter used to grill the meat and the charred residue will eventually fall into the broth, creating an unpleasant dark broth...anyway, the restaurant is not related to this post as i will introduce Fireman BBQ Steamboat today..

I found out that they were having promotion at RM 19.90 per person for buffet dinner...seems like a good deal since the price is slashed from the original price of RM 29.90 per person

The ambiance was quite relaxing with clear flow of fresh air and humidifiers, which is important since its an indoor steamboat restaurant and u wouldnt want the customers to complain about the hot and stuffy air inside...

Customer service was meagre coz the waiters are all foreigners, and only one speaks simple english, hence there are communication breakdowns...However, i presume u dont need waiters with good command of english since customers will just need to tick on the leaflets and pass it to them for more servings of food..

The restaurant uses electric stove instead the gas stove, hence, safer and lesser heat generated...

When the grilling and cooking session started, there was a sence of dreadfulness due to my previous experience of the dark and oily broth...
However, after dozens of chicken cutlerts, pork ham, etc are grilled, the broth still remains clear...This may be attributed to the use of a piece of pig fat to oil the grilling part, Hence, substituting the butter while minimizing charrs during the grilling process..

Theres also a performance by the "fireman"

Chicken grilled was quite tender which results in melt in ur mouth sensation

Varieties of other vegetables and meat related products offered

Saw that piece of pig fat on top?? Very useful for grilling + substitues butter

Pros: Nice ambiance/refreshing, the broth stays clear from charred residues, performance by Mr Fireman

Cons: Lack of variety of dishes (felt bored after requesting for same dishes over and over again), poor communication skills by employees

Result: 5/10

Pasta De Gohan (Sunway Pyramid)

The name Gohan reminds me of the son of Son Goku from the Mutiara Naga (BM version of Dragon Ball by Akira Toriyama). Hence, its kinda weird to relate it to pasta...coz when i see the name, Kame Hame Ha and Gelombang Jiwa comes into my mind...haha

However, decided to try it after passing by so many times while shopping at Sunway Pyramid..

I expected to be pay a premium for the pastas there when i step into the restaurant...
However, to my suprise...theres actually discount for meal sets up to 30%-50%(only applicable in the afternoon if im not mistaken)...and it was a darn good deal..

So, i proceeded to the orders and found out that items listed in the menu are quite unique from the conventional italian pastas...this is kinda like a hybrid of pasta with an ummph of japanese influence since its named after Son Goku's son...

Fish Roe with Potato baked in cheese

Chesse Pasta with Grilled Pork Strips

Pasta pan fried with mini chicken cutlets

Overall, it was quite satisfying especially the super rich cheese they used in the baked dishes

However, the richness of the cheese has overpowered other natural taste that should complement each other on the platter...

Rating 6/10
