Recently I went to Tanjung Sepat with the gals to celebrate Wan Ying birthday. Basically Tanjung Sepat is a small fisherman village. Nothing special there except there is some plantation to visit and the forever 'not so romantic' lover bridge...
I am not sure whether it was human natural thought or is a norm that people will associate seafood to fisherman village or anyplace where there is beach. Just to inform you that Tanjung Sepat is not famous for its seafood actually. No doubt there is hundreds of seafood restaurant but not all is sedap sedap belaka lo...
Since we went there without any planning thus we eat at Ocen Restaurant. One can never miss this restaurant as it was located directly next to the Lover Bridge overseeing the muddy beach and of course the view of sunset.
As it was a hot day and some are getting sick with sorethroat we ops for non spicy non fried food.
We order one fried rice to go along with our kongpo mantis prawn, steam white promfet and sweet and sour crab. Oh not to forget some green...We order sweet potato leaf
Fried rice was good. The 'wok hei' is enough to bring up the aroma though there is not much of ingredient it it.
Sweet potato leave is nothing to shout about. We order this because we need some green stuff to go along with our heavy food.
The kongpo mantis prawn is a total disappointment. Being Klangite, I have try many place serving mantis prawn and I had never try such a bad kongpo mantis prawn
The steam promfet is by far the best food we have. The fish were fresh and it was lightly salted with soy sauce and ginger. However, I wish there is more sauce to go with the fish as it get kinda dry after a while.
Well, crab is a must according to the gals. However for me, this crab is just 'off' mode for me. Frankly I know i can somehow cook better than me. Sorry to say my mom cook better sweet and sour crab.
The crab is small size and the sauce is just too sour for my liking. I think they just pour in ketchup and fried with the crab. Nothing to shout about.
Total damage is RM 127 inclusive of 4 coconut drink and few other drink to crunch our thirst....It was a hot day anyway.....

Dewata Cafe, Seafood at Jimbaran Beach
Everyone who is went to Bali or currently planning for Bali would have heard about the expensive Jimbaran Beach Seafood.

Well, we are the victims...Hehe....
But what the point of going to Bali but not enjoying the seaside seafood dinner. Romantic for couple, nice avenue for chit chat for friend gathering trip and also family bonding place if you are having family trip.

There is hundred of restaurant and cafe serving the same Balinese grill seafood in Jimbaran Beach and is up to you to choose your own place. Our driver, Mr Bagus drop us at Dewata Cafe and we was greet with a group of staff who warmly usher us to the beach side. Well, they want our money, no wonder the treatment is so good.

We opt for Package A (initially cost 1.3 million but after negotiationg and make some changes in menu, we get it at price of 1.1 million rupiah)....Ok, the 'million' sound horrible but when convert to RM it was about RM500.

This menu fit for 5 person but since we have 7 person so we already prepared to have a light meal and have another drinking session in hotel later on.

Well, as normal, we as Malaysia Chinese always get discriminated. We waited for about 1 hour and a half but our food wasn't serve yet compare to the 'ah mo' that come so much later than us. But well, Ah mo is so easy to 'chop' compare to we the stingy young malaysian chinese....Well, is OK

7.30pm when the sun already set and hundred of plane had touch down and depart (yes, we can see all plane in and out of Denpasar Airport since Jimbaran Beach is just beside the Airport), our food was finally served.
7 virgin coconut (Haha, define virgin please, this look old to me)

Here come the started, fish soup and salad. The fish soup taste like ajinamoto and pepper soup and the fish is kinda hard. We hadly can identify whether it was fish or chicken.

The salad is too small portion for 7, not to mention that the taste was just 'below restaurant' standard. There is steam potato as well....Sadly forgot to capture the photo. Anyway, this 3 wasn't our main attraction.

The come the greenish kangkung which is obviously overcook. But fine.......fine...we wait and waited for the arrival of our main dish...

Clap clap....tadaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Presenting the main course:
1.2kg of lobster (i doubt the size)
1.2kg of fish (again the fish taste like chicken...Hard testure)
Clam (OMG, super good. The sauce was awesome)
Fried Calamari (Good. It wasnt crunchy but the testure was nice and not very chewy)
Squid Sate (This is really chewy. Basically it test your gum and teeth stregth)
Grill prawn (Quite generous serving of prawn. It taste good with a bit of hangus taste)
1.2kg crab. (The crab is too small for 1.2kg lo but fresh. Taste really sweet)

Conclusion, the seafood is fresh and as tourist, a life time experience for once is worth it. The total bill come out to be 1.5million rupiah about RM 545 ringgit for 5 person. Is pricy but worth the price we pay, maybe not for now, but for the 2 hours we spend that day. Total satisfaction. If it was Malaysia, sorry I don't think I gonna pay that for a seafood dinner except there is same concept and better venue.

Restaurant Coconut Flower @ Teluk Gong
During CNY I bring my friend to have a dinner at Teluk Gong, the place to be for a nice seafood. Frankly I do not think Klang Seafood is nice but majority of people like to come to Klang for Seafood Dinner.
So I decided to go to the common seafood restaurant that I always go in Teluk Gong which is Coconut Flower. Well, the name come from the Coconut Flower liquor or toddy. It was nice if it was serve with a little bit of Guinness Stout.
So here is what we order.
Stir fried mantis prawn with dry chili (Kong Pou Har Kao)
- I like this dish as it taste good. A little bit of spicy and sweetness plus with the fresh mantis prawn make the whole dish very nice. The serving is also quite big.
Tom Yum prawn in coconut shell
- The prawn wasn't that fresh maybe due to Chinese New Year season where there is less fisherman going to the sea. The tom yum is excellent...
Butter squid
- the butter doesn't blend well with the squid and the squid is a bit too hard to chew...hehe
Steam Lala
- is good but cannot compete with Lala Chong
Fried lala bee hoon
- Sadly the amount of lala is so insignificant that I thought i was actually eating a 'bee hoon goreng kosong'
Some greenery stuff to balance up the meal...

Well, overall the place was too commercialise. The restaurant can accommodate more than 120 tables at one time and they have to compromise with their food quality. However, the price was quite reasonable, and it was a nice place to hang around...Just make sure you come early to secure some parking....and yeah, dun forgot the coconut flower liquor....A must try!!

Restaurant Sun Mee Foong, Tanjung Tualang
During the recent visit to Kampar, I have the chance to taste the well known ‘fresh water prawn’ of Tanjung Tualang.
We ended up in Restaurant Sun Mee Foong, which was made famous by food review show in Astro and some famous blogger.

The restaurant is so famous that we are supposed to make reservation before we arrive. As we didn’t do that, we face the consequences of waiting for more than an hour before the first dish was served to us. There are buses of full loaded tourist making a stop for lunch here and caused the restaurant to be jammed up and congested.

A few aquariums full of ‘big head’ prawn are sighted in front of the shop. So after I go for a walk, snapping few photograph and drink cups and cups of tea, we finally able to taste the food there.

First we were serve with Kangkung Belacan…The kangkung was not crunchy and watery and the taste is mediocre for me.

Second the soy sauce fried prawn was served. The prawn was in need juicy, crunchy and fresh. However the soy sauce was just too salty for me. However, everyone like it so much. We call the small prawn as we have 12 people. The boss advice us to take the small prawn as it was sweeter and nicer to be fried.

Third, came the fried sotong. The sotong wasn’t ‘Q’ enough but was superbly crunchy. The thai sweet and spicy sauce add extra kick to the sotong goreng….

Claypot taufu come next. It was just mediocre and there is room for improvement.

Next come the Thai sauce fried fish. The crunchy fish rest below the sweet and spicy sauce is just perfect to be eaten with white rice. Thumb up…thumb up….

Next, the ever famous steam prawn was served. The average size prawn is so fresh and the meat was so tender and juicy. The Chinese liquor make the dishes just perfect for me. The prawn also come with ‘har kao’ that I suck it out from the prawn head. In deed it was high in cholesterol but I couldn’t resist the fresh har kao dripping from the head of the prawn.

After finishing the dishes, we patiently waited for our last dish….We wait and wait…..and after 20 minutes passed, here come the sweet sour sauce steamed fish. I believed the boss have forgotten our order….hehe…By the time the fish was serve, we are actually too tired and too full to really enjoy it. But one word, perfect fish….

The total damage : our of our expectation. Cheap or expensive? You decide.
Fresh prawn 2 dishes (4 kati/2.4kg) - RM 140
Fish for 2 dishes (1.2kg) - RM 40
Claypot Taufu - RM 12
Kangkung - RM 8
Sotong - RM 16
Tea - RM 5
Peanut - RM 3.6
17 bowls of rice - RM 17
Total: RM241.60

Restoran New Hong Seng Bay Seafood@Tanjung Sepat
The crew members of Harkausiewmai are eager to visit Tanjung Sepat to taste the fresh seafood.
Hence, here we are on the eve of Merdeka Day, relaxing by the side of rushing sea breeze while enjoying the delicious and fresh dishes served by the restaurant located just by the seaside.
We cant resist but to camwhore "kau kau" at yet to be polluted seaside while waiting for the dishes to be served...

A pot of tea which is a norm for chinese dishes, can hav the usual selection of "kuk po". "hiong pin", etc.... why am i writing about the oh, so normal tea? Well, u will understand when ur having it while being blown by the relaxing seabreeze...
Tau Fu Kang
The opening, which is the "tau fu kang" tofu cooked like sharks fin in claypot. This dish is pretty good, and has all the natural taste of bounties from the sea...theres actually crab meat in it too...yummy
Joo as a gentleman, serving us the tau fu kang, and by the look of his face, u can actually see that he is soooo eager to be the first person to taste it...
Well, to some, a bowl of "tau fu kang" would not be complete without some dark vinegar in it. However, it would only be given upon request. This vinegar is mild, and did not provide the necessary "kick" for us who prefer strong taste of vinegar....
Claypot Ho Chien (oyster and egg cooked on claypot)
This dish is pretty good, with so many oysters cooked with the eggs. We can taste the freshness of the oysters, and its pretty darn good for oyster lovers....
Deep Fried Cuttlefish
This dish did not let us down as compared to what we had in KL/Jalan Alor...the cuttlefish still maintains the springy sensation, an indication of freshness
Look at how crunchy and light the batter covering the cuttlefish

Claypot Curry Fish
This dish is damn good, with the precise concoction of spices, it is cooked to perfection..Its not too spicy, hence, the taste of the fish can be savoured. The vegetables are not mushy and ingredients are aplenty(as u can see from the pic)
The total cost for the meal for 5, costs around RM70+ which is quite reasonable
Pros: Fresh seafood, Good dishes, Nice view and breeze
Cons: Need to travel quite far, unless u intend to visit tanjung sepat, it makes little sense that u will travel all the way there from KL just to eat it then, back to KL...
Results: 8.5/10 (it is shy from 9 coz the distance is quite far from KL)
